Quake causes Earth to lose time

AOL reports NASA’s findings on Saturday’s earthquake has caused the Earth’s mass to redistibute, which has caused the Earth’s rotatation to speed up and for 1 earth day to be shorter by 1.26 microseconds [millionths of a second].

The earthquake, which struck at 06.30 on 18 March 2010, registered 8.8 magnitude and is the worst earthquake since the Great Chilean Earthquake (or Valdivia) in 1960.

The 2004, the Indian Ocean (or Sumatra-Andaman) earthquake registered at magnitude 9.3 and reportedly shortened an Earth day by 6.8 microseconds.
