Ugly duckling Betty prepares for show’s swan song

ABC has announced it will be cancelling Ugly Betty in the coming spring, after its four season run. Debuting in 2006, the show launched the careers of America Ferrera in the title role of Betty Suarez and Mode magazine has revamped the careers of Vanessa Williams (Wilhelmina Slater) and Eric Mabius (Daniel Meade).

The cancellation comes after a noticeable decline in viewer popularity. With the show not getting the much needed viewer ratings, so avidly monitored by network bosses, it was only a matter of time before the show’s mediocre plotlines and exhausted comedy would go unnoticed. Fickle fans have turned to newer and more amusing shows.

At least ABC has seen that Mode, like all fashion fads could only last for a few seasons, and has decided to end it before it became another television faux pas.

Yeah, not that disappointed. It got lame after the first series. Kinda disappointed me that it never paid more than lip-service to the original telenovela version Betty La Fea (which ran much longer and was relatively much more successful).

  2. I don’t think the original would have ‘translated’ that well for US market. But at least they know when to stop…unlike Lost! I gave up after the first series!
